Darren Divall
Darren Divall is the former Head of International Road Safety at the UK’s renowned Transport Research Laboratory. Darren is an international team leader and technical expert with 20 years of experience developing and implementing evidence-based road safety and sustainable transport interventions resulting in quantifiable societal benefit.
Darren’s specific expertise is in the formulation of multi-sector strategic policies and action plans, conducting road safety management capacity reviews, fleet safety assessments, data collection and analysis, developing and implementing education and campaign programmes, identifying solutions for vulnerable road users and building capacity at all levels through interactive workshops and technical assistance.
Darren is a PRINCE2 Foundation level Project Manager, and has managed the delivery of complex road assessment, safety audit and traffic speed management projects in accordance with Safe System principles.
Darren has worked in Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the UK. He has worked directly for national government agencies and petrochemical companies, and on projects funded by the World Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, African Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and Arriyadh Development Agency.
Darren is also a judge for the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards, having previously been commended for his work in the development of a road safety guide for people with special educational needs and the primary author of the FIA Foundation’s Seat Belt Campaign Toolkit, which won a full award in 2005.
